Jubilee Night of Chairlifts with a Birthday Chairlift

2025-07-11 11:28:00

BKV – with the Zugliget Chairlift – will join this year again the Night of Chairlifts, a countrywide event. On Saturday, 12 July 2025, the special cableway will be open from 7:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., from which passengers can relish the unique view of illuminated Budapest. You can travel on the chairlift at night with a special ticket, which - due to the expected high interest - is worth buying in advance at the Millennium Underground Museum at Deák tér.

The Night of Chairlifts will be held for the tenth time on Saturday, and visitors are welcome at four locations across the country, including the BKV Zugliget Chairlift. This mode of transport, which is celebrating its 55th birthday this year, takes you up to János Hill in 15 minutes, covering 1,040 metres and overcoming a difference in altitude of 262 metres. The Zugliget Chairlift is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Budapest, offering a great panorama of the city, but also a pleasant relaxation for nature lovers.

On Saturday, between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m., passengers can ride the chairlift with a special 5,000 HUF return ticket for this occasion. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Millennium Underground Museum at Deák tér, or on site from 5:30 p.m., you can pay cash only. Tickets for children and students are not available for the event, but travel is free for children under 3 years of age.

Parking is limited on site, so it is worth using public transport. The Zugliget Chairlift can be reached by bus 291, and a retro bus with the R158 sign departs from Széll Kálmán tér, which can only be boarded at the terminus and is available at a standard fare.
