He has been working at BKV Zrt. since 4 October 1990.

József Héri began his career as a mechanical engineer, was appointed as head of the production preparation group in 1995; then, starting from 1997, he continued his work as head of the vehicle maintenance service.

He was promoted to chief engineer in 2002, to technical operations director in 2008, and to technical operations specialist director in 2010. He has subsequently been the director of the Metro Operations Directorate since 1 March 2013.

As of 14 May 2025, he has been deputy CEO of BKV Zrt.
