BKV and the Hungarian Transport Federation are welcoming visitors to the Szentendre Urban Public Transport Museum on the Day of Transport Culture, 11 May, with interactive, immersive programmes. Beyond witnessing the development of public transportation at the permanent exhibition, visitors can also try out the difficult task of a tram driver on a simulator. With the programme, BKV and the Hungarian Transport Federation would like to raise awareness for the importance of sustainable, safe, and considerate transport.

As an enterprise committed to sustainable, safe, and cultured transport, BKV is joining the Day of Transport Culture programme series this year as well. The company, in cooperation with the Hungarian Transport Federation and the Hungarian Automobile Club, is welcoming visitors to the Szentendre Urban Public Transport Museum. On Sunday, the permanent exhibition set up in the former BHÉV depot built in 1914 can be visited for free. Most of the industrial history collection, which includes around sixty pieces, consists of trams; however, buses, trolleybuses, old suburban railway trainsets can also be admired, and even the prototype of the GANZ metro can be seen. The UV tram and its trailer, which have been running in the capital city since 1956, are also interesting, as well as another prototype vehicle, the Hungaroplan tram, which was nicknamed Csufi.

Driving a tram on a simulator

On the Day of Transport Culture, there will also be an opportunity to drive a tram simulator. A prior online registration is required for this; details can be found on the official Facebook page of BKV. The simulator is based on the driver's cab of an ICS type tram, which was converted by the employees of the BKV tram depot in Kelenföld.

Capsizing simulator, drunkenness-simulating eyewear

The Hungarian Automobile Club is coming to the museum with an adventure truck to draw attention to the importance of safe driving. With the modern “Barracuda” computer simulator, attendees can put themselves to the test in different driving situations. With the help of the capsizing and seat belt simulator, testers can experience what a passenger perceives in a possible collision or when the car capsizes. They can also try out the so-called drunkenness-simulating eyewear, showing the road safety dangers of being drunk.

Arrive by an Ikarus convertible!

BKV will launch a free special round-trip service for the event. The Ikarus 630 convertible bus will depart from Batthyány Square and return to the same place. The service can only be used with a prior online registration. Details can also be found on the official Facebook page of BKV.
