Disruption correction still ongoing – replacement buses can be used on a section of metro line M2
A power supply failure is causing problems on a section of metro line M2. Replacement buses can be used between Örs vezér tere and Puskás Ferenc Stadion. The metro runs between Puskás Ferenc Stadion and Déli pályaudvar, and BKV specialists are still working to restore power supply to the section impacted by the outage. BKV and BKK appreciate the patience and understanding of passengers travelling in the capital city.
Based on the investigations so far, a power supply circuit breaker may have failed on metro line M2 on 8 April, after six o'clock. The circuit breaker's fault caused a short circuit, also damaging the cables of the safety device, which need to be replaced. BKV specialists have been working continuously since Tuesday evening to eliminate the fault, but resupplying the cables is taking longer than previously foreseen. Trainsets are currently unable to run on the voltage-free track between Örs vezér tere and Puskás Ferenc Stadion; as a consequence, replacement buses are transporting passengers at the length of two stations on the eleven-station line.
On Tuesday evening, one of the trainsets was on the open track between two stations when the power went out. Since the vehicle could not proceed, the passengers were escorted off the open track – in accordance with the usual safety regulations for such occasions. Everyone got out safely, and no one was injured.
The unexpected, immediate replacement of the metro requires significant resources; in such cases, it is also necessary to redeploy buses from other lines, which is why the withdrawal of a vehicle from a bus line may cause minor inconvenience to passengers on some other routes. BKV and BKK thank all passengers for their patience and understanding.
