BKV dedicates its new exhibition to one of the oldest but still functioning means of transport in Budapest. The exhibition unveiling the past and present of the Svábhegy cogwheel railway can be seen in the Millennium Underground Museum from 22 June, the Night of Museums. The "Fogas" will be 150 years old two days after the popular museum night.

In order to meet the topographic conditions of Svábhegy, a hill of Buda with emerging recreational functions, a newly patented transportation solution was established, the prototype of which was born in Switzerland only three years earlier. Riggenbach's invention - a rack placed between two rails of the railway, to which the rack wheel running down from the middle of the locomotive clings - opened a new chapter in the history of mountain railways. The first Budapest train set off on 24 June 1874.

The new temporary exhibition of the BKV museum opens on 22 June, the Night of Museums. The wristband of the programme can be purchased at the Millennium Underground Museum located in the Deák tér underpass, either in advance or during the event, for cash. Admission is free for children under 6 years of age. The wristbands are valid on the vehicles serving the participating museums in Budapest only on this evening, but they are not valid on public transport in Budapest according to the timetable. During the Night of Museums, wristband holders can also view the permanent exhibition of the BKV museum, which presents the history of the Millennium Underground Railway, in operation since 1896.
